Xingding Liu is a PhD candidate in Philosophy at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, fully funded by a University International Postgraduate Award (UIPA).
His doctoral research applies philosophy-of-language methodology to key concepts in Xuanxue (玄學) commentary texts to show how early medieval Chinese philosophy grounds systematicity in measured language usage. As a BSHP Ambassador (2026–2027), Xingding focuses on fostering connections between the Society and research communities across the Asia-Pacific region, with an emphasis on cross-cultural philosophical methodology.
Xingding is organising an online half-day panel discussion titled "Generalisation and De-reification: Methodological Challenges in Cross-Cultural History of Philosophy," bringing together early-career researchers working across Chinese and Western philosophical traditions. The event aims to model methodologically self-conscious, cross-cultural history of philosophy for postgraduate and early-career audiences.
