Luca Dondoni is currently a DAAD Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Ruhr University Bochum (Germany) and will take up a Humboldt Research Fellowship at the same institution in September 2026.
He completed his PhD at University College London (UK). Prior to that, he studied at King’s College London (UK), the University of Pavia – Collegio Ghislieri (Italy), and IUSS Pavia (Italy). His primary research focus is Platonic metaphysics and its connections with contemporary debates in the metaphysics of science. As a Humboldt Research Fellow, Luca will investigate Plato’s account of natural necessity — the hypothesis that physical processes could not occur other than they actually do.

We launched our Ambassador Scheme in 2025. Ambassadors are postgraduate students or early-career researchers working on any area of the history of philosophy who do not yet have permanent posts.
In return for their contribution to the work of the Society, Ambassadors receive a mentor, workshop partipation, professional training, and a fee-waiver for BSHP memberssship and conference attendance. Find oout more about the scheme and the other ambassadors here.
