The principal tasks of an Ambassador will be to work with the Officers and Management Committee of the British Society for the History of Philosophy to promote the Society and increase its membership. We shall welcome innovative ideas as to how this can be done.

In return for their contribution to the work of the Society, Ambassadors will be eligible to receive the following benefits:

• A mentor. Up to three meetings with an academic mentor (drawn from the Society’s Management Committee or wider membership) to discuss an academic issue of their choosing. For example, postdoc or job-market guidance, grant applications, feedback on a paper, advice on publishing, advice on organising conferences, career planning, how to design a course/write lectures, how to design a research project.
• Workshop participation. An opportunity to organise and take part in an online workshop at which BSHP Ambassadors will present work to each other and (if desired) to members of the BSHP’s Management Committee.
• Professional Training. Access to specialised workshops on professional topics, such as publishing in the history of philosophy. Workshops will be led by members of the BSHP Management Committee including, where relevant, Editors of the British Journal for the History of Philosophy.
• Fee-waiver. Fees for BSHP membership and conference attendance will be waived during the tenure of an Ambassadorship.

The Society expects to make 5 appointments, running from April 2026 to April 2027. At the end of the year, successful candidates will be required to submit a short report (maximum 300 words) outlining their activities and achievements.

Applications are especially encouraged from PG students from underrepresented groups, including students with disabilities, students from BAME backgrounds, first generation university students, and women.
